SARIKEI: A major infrastructure boost is in the pipeline here, with the 17-kilometre road linking the town to Tanjung Manis set to undergo a two-week trial period starting Mar 28.

Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii announced this during the 67th Anniversary Celebration of the Sarikei Coffee and Restaurant Traders Association at SMK St Anthony Sarikei Hall last night (Mar 23).
The Sarikei MP highlighted that the road project would ease travel for local residents, particularly in preparation for Aidilfitri, while also attracting more visitors and enhancing economic opportunities in the region.
In addition to infrastructure development, he announced aid for primary and secondary school students in Sarikei, providing school uniforms, shoes, and bags to help lessen the financial burden on parents.
To further support the local business community, Huang also pledged RM30,000 in funding to the Sarikei Coffee and Restaurant Traders Association for their annual activities.
