KUCHING: Sarikei has been selected as the host venue for the Sarawak-level National Day 2025 celebration, scheduled to take place on Sunday, August 31, 2025.
This was announced by Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, who is also the Minister-In-Charge for coordinating this year’s state-level celebration.
To support the successful implementation of the event, Fatimah will be assisted by five Deputy Ministers-In-Charge, namely Datuk Francis Harden Hollis (Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development – Talent Development), Datuk Dr Jerip Susil (Deputy Minister for Transport – Aviation and Roads), Datuk Len Talif Salleh (Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment), Datuk Dr Malcom Mussen Lamoh (Deputy Minister for International Trade, Industry and Investment), and Datuk Abdullah Saidol (Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department – Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS).
A total of three main events will be held in conjunction with the celebration, all of which will be jointly organised by the Sarawak Protocol, Ceremony and Event Management Unit (UPPANS) and the Sarikei Resident’s Office, with the participation of various agencies and local stakeholders.
The first event is the Unity Walk, which will take place on the morning of August 31 at 7:00 am at the Sarikei Sports Complex.
Fatimah will officiate at this community-focused event co-organised by the Sarikei Resident’s Office, Sarikei Youth and Sports Office, and the Sarikei District Council.
The second and main highlight of the day will be the National Day Celebration Assembly, scheduled for 8:00 pm on the same day at the Sarikei Sports Complex.
Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, will grace the assembly.
This formal gathering, coordinated by UPPANS, the Sarikei Resident’s Office, and the Sarawak Arts Council (MSS), aims to unite the people of Sarawak in commemorating the spirit of nationhood.
Immediately following the conclusion of the assembly will be the National Day Concert, scheduled for 10:00 pm, also at the Sarikei Sports Complex.
The concert will be officiated by Fatimah and organised by the Sarawak Arts Council, featuring performances celebrating Sarawak’s rich cultural diversity and national pride.
The celebration is expected to be attended by prominent dignitaries, including Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, along with Deputy Premiers, Ministers, Deputy Ministers, and other distinguished guests.
“Let us come together and enliven the National Day 2025 celebration in Sarikei this year,” Fatimah urged.
