SARIKEI: The Sarikei United Chinese Association continues to play a key role in uniting the local Chinese community and preserving cultural harmony in the constituency.

Deputy Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii said such organisations were vital in strengthening unity and upholding cultural values within the community.

He commended both past and current leaders for successfully bringing together various Chinese associations under one umbrella to champion the welfare of the local community.

“I greatly appreciate the willingness of the new main, youth and women committee members to take up this responsibility.

“The courage to serve the community and preserve our cultural identity is a noble duty that deserves recognition,” he said.

He said this when officiating at the 46th Anniversary Celebration of the Sarikei Division United Chinese Association and the installation of its new committee members at Dewan Sentral Sarikei on Friday.

The local MP and Repok assemblyman expressed confidence that the association would continue to grow under the new leadership and urged all parties to work together to maintain racial harmony in Sarikei.

At the event, Huang also announced an allocation of RM30,000 to the association to support its activities and development programmes.
