KUCHING: Malaysia Fisheries Development Authority (LKIM) Sarawak Director, Sundralingam Nagaiah, said that a proposal to develop Satang Biru into an agrotourism area will be prepared, thus leveraging the location’s potential for growth.
“The area has great potential for agrotourism, with its well-known shrimp products attracting not only locals but also tourists.
“Undeniably, Satang Biru is a recognised brand across Malaysia, with shrimp farming spanning up to 30 ponds,” he told Persatuan Nelayan Kawasan (PNK) Satang Biru.
Sundralingam said this during the Majlis Rahmah Mesra MADANI Bersama Nelayan PNK Satang Biru event which was officiated by LKIM Chairman, Muhammad Faiz Fadzil, at Esplanade Telaga Air here today.
He also encouraged fishermen to capitalise their income through selling sea products to restaurants, retail shops, and other ventures, which would directly benefit them.
He cited that this initiative could also support the welfare of 624 fishermen under PNK Satang Biru.

“The fishermen’s association should actively carry out various economic projects and not rely on a single source of income.
“With its potential, Satang Biru can become a well-known agrotourism destination, attracting many visitors every week,” he added.
He also emphasised that two-way communication between fishermen and LKIM is crucial to effectively address welfare and fisheries issues.
“We hope for good cooperation between LKIM, PNK, and the fishermen to ensure the success of this initiative,” he said.
Meanwhile, PNK Satang Biru Chairman, Mahmud @ Bohary Montot, praised LKIM’s efforts in providing a platform to understand fishermen’s needs through the Rahmah Mesra MADANI Programme.
“This programme aligns with the Malaysia MADANI aspiration, which emphasises compassion, togetherness, and public welfare. PNK Satang Biru appreciates and fully supports LKIM’s initiatives.
“We are also ready to continue cooperating to ensure every policy and assistance provided has maximum impact on the fishermen,” he said.
