KUCHING: A total of 105 students received donations of bags and school supplies through the Back-to-School Programme organised by the Satok Community Sports Club (KSK) here.
The programme has had a significant impact on primary school students in the Satok constituency since its inception in 2014, according to Satok assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki.
Speaking at a press conference, Ibrahim who is Deputy Minister of Utility (Sarawak Energy and PETROS) highlighted the programme’s enduring commitment to educational support.
“The objective of the programme is to encourage students to motivate them to go to school and study diligently,” Ibrahim explained.
“We also aim to help their families reduce their burden.”
This year, it involved 105 students from six schools in the area, including four schools in the main constituency and two in surrounding villages, namely Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Merpati Jepang, SK Combined, SK Rakyat, Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (SJK) Chung Hua No. 4, Kuching, Kampung Segedup and Kampung Sungai Maong.
Each participating student received a school bag and essential school equipment to help them with the newly opened school year.
“We want our children to be successful in their studies,” Ibrahim said, calling for continued community support to encourage the students.
He stressed the importance of education in nation-building, particularly in developing talent in critical fields.
“Education is very important. We want our children to be able to contribute to our country. We know that to compete, we need a lot of children (to be educated), especially in the field of engineering, science and technology, as envisioned by our Premier,” he stated.
