KUCHING: About 2,500 Sarawak flags have been distributed across the Satok constituency to promote patriotism ahead of the Sarawak Day celebration.
Satok assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki said the flag distribution was held as part of the Program Kibaran Ibu Pertiwiku (Bendera Sarawak) 2026 Satok Edition.
The Deputy Minister for Utilities (Sarawak Energy and PETROS) said the initiative aims to encourage Sarawakian to remember the state’s history from the attainment of self-governance to the formation of Malaysia while honouring the sacrifices of past leaders.

“It’s good that we can come together to celebrate Sarawak Day.
“Events like this help strengthen the bond between the people and their leaders, especially in Satok where our community is made up of people from many different ethnic backgrounds,” he told reporters when met after officiating at the programme here today (July 17).
Meanwhile, Political Secretary to Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof and Satok Community Sports Club chairman Irwan Zulkarnain Mohamad Hasbie said the programme was organised to encourage residents to proudly fly both the Jalur Gemilang and Ibu Pertiwi, in conjunction with the Sarawak Day and upcoming National Day celebrations.
He said the 2,500 flags were distributed to villages throughout the Satok constituency, while the recreational activities were aimed at bringing the community together.
Earlier, participants took part in an aerobics session, followed by a 5.2-kilometre cycling ride involving more than 100 cyclists through villages in the Satok constituency, as well as a lucky draw and other activities.
Irwan also expressed his appreciation to Ibrahim for sponsoring the Sarawak and Malaysia flags, T-shirts, participants’ prizes and lucky draw gifts, adding that the Satok assemblyman has consistently supported recreational and community-based programmes for residents of the constituency.
