KUCHING: Residents of Satok can expect a wave of development this year, with several key infrastructure, community, and housing projects set to enhance the constituency’s growth and livability.
Satok assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki said among the major projects highlighted for this year is the construction of an Digital Innovation Hub, with an estimated cost of more than RM2 million.
He said the hub will serve as a workspace and help address challenges faced by young entrepreneurs, particularly in securing office spaces, allowing them to use the hub’s address as their official business address.
He mentioned that the facility will also cater specifically to traders within the Satok community, assisting those without registered companies.
“The project is almost halfway completed and is expected to be ready by August, hopefully,” he said when met by reporters here today (Jan 6).
He added that the constituency will also begin work on the first phase of the approved Tebingan Heritage Waterfront project.
“Approval has already been obtained for this phase, with an estimated cost of about RM160 million.
“The project will extend from the Brooke Dockyard area, looping towards the suspension bridge and reaching Kampung Kudai. In total, including the existing section, it will span approximately four kilometres,” he added.
In addition, a housing project in Segedup is also in the pipeline.
“Road works, including earthworks and drainage, are almost complete, with construction of the houses expected to begin by mid-year.
“The first phase of the housing project, known as Rumah Spektra Permata (RSP), will comprise 136 units and is targeted at residents from areas such as Segedup, Sungai Maong, Kudai and so on.
“The project is expected to be launched around July or August, with construction estimated to take about two years,” he said.
Earlier, Ibrahim said that about RM5 million has been allocated this year under the Minor Rural Project (MRP) and Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) to fund development initiatives in the Satok constituency.
He also said that the allocation will be distributed evenly based on applications received from all 15 branches within the Satok constituency, in line with the practice adopted each year.
“Apart from these major and ongoing projects, the allocation will also cover small- and medium-scale works within the constituency, including road maintenance, utilities and improvements to the drainage system,” he said.
