KUALA LUMPUR: Prospective haj pilgrims have been reminded to obtain permits and comply with regulations set by the Saudi Arabian authorities in line with maqasid syariah (objectives of Islamic law), to ensure pilgrims’ safety and prevent harm and disorder.

The Head of Religious Affairs at Masjid al-Haram and Masjid Nabawi, Sheikh Dr Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais, said the principle of “no haj without a permit” is consistent with Islamic syariah, which emphasises the preservation of life and the prevention of harm, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

According to him, the measure also aims to safeguard the well-being of Dhuyufurrahman (Guests of Allah) while enabling them to perform their religious duties in a peaceful and orderly environment.

“Compliance with regulations and directives reflects the awareness of pilgrims and their reverence for the symbols of Allah, as well as demonstrating the spirit of discipline required by syariah,” he said.

He stressed that adherence to haj permit requirements is not merely an administrative procedure, but a religious obligation that reflects an understanding of maqasid syariah and strengthens the values of obedience and discipline in ensuring the success of the haj season.

Violations of such regulations, he added, could be harmful to oneself and others, which is clearly prohibited in Islamic syariah.

Sudais also urged prospective pilgrims to cooperate with and adhere to the instructions of the Saudi authorities to ensure the smooth performance of the pilgrimage and the provision of the best possible services to the Guests of Allah.

He said the measure is important to facilitate the performance of religious rites in accordance with the highest standards of management and care throughout the haj season. – BERNAMA
