KUCHING: The Sarawak Badminton Association (SBA) has embarked on a comprehensive house-cleaning exercise, marking a new era of reform and unity under its recently restructured leadership.
After years of internal division and stagnation, the SBA is now operating as a single, unified team led by its new president, Datuk Seri Wan Lizozman, with representatives from all divisions across Sarawak appointed to key roles.
“Previously, people talked about Team A and Team B. Now, we only have one team – Team SBA,” said Honorary Secretary, Datuk Dr Wan Khalik Wan Muhammad, at the SBA hall during a press conference today.
The association’s leadership believes that this internal reform is crucial to restoring SBA’s credibility, particularly as the association plans to actively participate in national and regional competitions, including SUKMA 2026 and the 2025 Borneo Games.
“We’re focused on restoring structure, trust, and collaboration. Every division will now have a voice and a responsibility in growing the sport statewide,” added Wan Khalik.
Since its official registration was reinstated just last month, SBA has resumed communication with the Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) to explore potential areas of cooperation, especially in high-performance athlete development.
As part of its long-term vision, SBA is also strengthening its grassroots network, with 52 players currently registered across Kuching, Sibu and Miri, and six local coaches overseeing statewide training programmes.
“This is only the beginning. We’re rebuilding not just a structure; we’re rebuilding belief in Sarawak badminton,” he said.
