KUCHING: The Sarawak Badminton Association (SBA) has named Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Leonard Linggi Jugah as its Patron and Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Husain as Honorary Life President in recognition of their longstanding contributions to badminton in the state.
The appointments were announced during the Association’s 5th Council Meeting and Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2026, held at a hotel here today (July 11).
In a statement, SBA said Linggi was among the founding members involved in establishing the association and played a key role in laying the foundation for the development of badminton in Sarawak.
His appointment as Patron recognises his longstanding association with SBA and his contributions to the growth of the sport in the state.
The association also appointed Abdul Aziz as Honorary Life President in recognition of his leadership, dedication and longstanding service to SBA and the development of badminton in Sarawak.
The AGM, chaired by SBA president Datuk Sri Dr. Wan Lizozman Wan Omar, was attended by council members and representatives from 11 affiliated badminton associations across Sarawak.
During the council meeting and AGM, members discussed key matters concerning the administration, governance, development programmes and future direction of badminton in Sarawak.
Several amendments to the SBA Constitution were also approved as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the Association’s governance and organisational structure.
SBA also reaffirmed its commitment to implementing its SMASH 2030 Strategic Roadmap through seven strategic pillars, including plans to organise more tournaments and development programmes throughout Sarawak, particularly at the divisional level.
These initiatives are aimed at increasing participation, identifying promising young talent and strengthening the pathway for players to progress to the state and national levels.
Wan Lizozman expressed his appreciation to the council members and affiliated associations for their continued support and commitment towards developing badminton in Sarawak.
“SBA will continue to strengthen its governance, implement the SMASH 2030 Strategic Roadmap, develop our players and coaches, support our affiliated associations and organise more tournaments throughout Sarawak to identify and nurture young talents. We will continue working closely with our partners to bring Sarawak badminton to greater heights,” he said.
