KUCHING: The Sarawak Biodiversity Centre (SBC) will host a Research and Development (R&D) Webinar at 2pm on July 16.

This webinar aims to highlight the progress made by researchers who have obtained R&D permits under the Sarawak Biodiversity Regulations, 2016 while fostering a collaborative environment for the exchange of knowledge and ideas among the scientific community.

“The first speaker, Ir Dr Marini Sawawi, senior lecturer at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) will present her research titled “Production of Nypa Salt (Garam Apong): Process Optimisation, Content and Antioxidant Analysis”,”SBC said in a press statement on Wednesday (July2).

Her presentation will delve into the traditional and scientific methods used to enhance the quality of Nypa salt production, while uncovering the nutritional benefits and antioxidant potential of this locally sourced product.

Suzy Rini Gindi, senior lecturer at the University of Technology Sarawak (UiTM Sarawak) will share insights from her research titled “Development of a sago-based nutrition bar: Formulation, sensory evaluation, characterisation, and shelf-life”.

Her work highlights innovation in local food development and potential commercialisation of sago-based products.

To conclude the webinar, Dr Muammar  Mansor, junior research group leader in geomicrobiology at the University of Tuebingen, Germany will present an engaging exploration of microbial ecosystems and their relevance in understanding early earth environment through his research titled “Tasik Biru in Bau, Malaysia, as a modern model habitat for the ancient ocean.”
