KUCHING: The Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) and Bursa Malaysia are investigating reports of unauthorised access and trading activities involving a limited number of clients’ online trading accounts.

According to their joint statement, the incident — reported on Thursday afternoon (April 24) — involved failed client logins and trades executed without client authorisation, as identified by several brokers.

In response, all brokers have been advised to immediately alert their clients to reset their passwords and login credentials to enhance account security.

“Brokers are also required to strengthen their security protocols, including the implementation of multi-factor authentication and stricter password policies,” the statement read.

The regulators stressed that they remain vigilant and are working closely with brokers to determine the root cause of the incident and implement any further necessary safeguards.

“We wish to assure all investors that the integrity of Malaysia’s capital market remains intact. The market is now open as usual.

“Capital market regulators are committed to ensuring the marketplace remains fair and orderly,” the statement added.
