KUCHING: The Sarawak Cycling Association (SCA) received the Best State Cycling Association Award from the Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) at its 36th AGM Gala in Melaka.
The award marks a proud milestone for Sarawak and its vibrant cycling community.
This national recognition stands as a testament to the dedication, teamwork, and passion of everyone who has contributed to the growth of cycling in Sarawak — from grassroots development and coaching to competitive excellence and community engagement.
SCA president Irawan Sudarsono expressed deep appreciation for the award, crediting it to the collective efforts of all who have shaped the association since its founding.
“This achievement belongs to every cyclist, coach, official, club, and volunteer who has believed in the vision of making Sarawak a true cycling state.
“I would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to all past and present committee members who have laid the foundation of SCA since its inception.
“Their dedication, perseverance, and passion have made this recognition possible,” Irawan said in a statement issued recently.
He thanked the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak (MYSED), Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC), Sarawak State Sports Council (MSNS), local authorities, event collaborators, and cycling associations and clubs across divisions, whose continued collaboration and support have strengthened the cycling ecosystem in the state.
“This award is not just for SCA, it belongs to the entire Sarawak cycling family.
“From BMX and MTB riders to road and track cyclists, commissaires, and technical officials, everyone has played a role in putting Sarawak on the national map.
“Together, we’ve built a culture that celebrates both performance and community,” he added.
Under SCA’s leadership, Sarawak has seen a surge in cycling activities across the state, including major events such as the Siol International Mountain Bike Challenge, DBKU Road Race, Layar Cycling Carnival, Bintulu Mountain Bike Challenge, Mukah Criterium Challenge, Kuala Baram Cycling Race, Samarahan Bike Challenge, and the National Cycling Specific Coaching Course Level 1 — along with continuous development programs that nurture young talents and promote cycling as a lifestyle.
Looking ahead, Irawan emphasised that this recognition marks a new chapter, not a conclusion.
“This is not the endgame — this is just the beginning. SCA will not rest on its laurels until Sarawak truly becomes the nation’s cycling powerhouse.
“We are driven to elevate the sport further, to build more champions, more programs, and more opportunities for every cyclist in our state,” he said.
