KUCHING: The Sarawak Cycling Association (SCA) is accelerating its grassroots development with growing private sector support, starting with a new collaboration with Polygon Bikes Malaysia and Lerun Malaysia.

As part of this strategic partnership, five brand new Polygon bikes were contributed to support SCA’s BMX team.

The handover event was attended by SCA president Irawan Sudarsono, vice president Zahirunisa Abd Rahim, BMX coach Aim Fauzi, and representatives from Rodalink Malaysia.

“This collaboration with Polygon and Lerun is just the beginning. As the sport continues to grow in Sarawak, we’re committed to building more partnerships like this to support grassroots development and provide our young athletes with the tools they need to excel,” he told Sarawak Tribune when contacted recently.

He pointed out that while equipment is important, the deeper goal is to build a sustainable cycling ecosystem.

“It’s about creating an ecosystem where talent is identified, nurtured, and elevated. I’m personally very encouraged by the support we’ve received from industry partners like Polygon and Lerun.

“It shows that when the private sector and sports bodies come together, we can truly make a difference at the grassroots level,” he said.

He added SCA will actively work to engage local bicycle retailers in future efforts, ensuring every stakeholder in the cycling community plays a part in shaping the state’s athletic success.

Looking ahead, he said SCA plans to continue engaging with brands and stakeholders who share its vision of long-term athlete development and inclusive sporting growth in Sarawak.
