KUCHING: The Sarawak Cricket Association (SCA) has officially submitted two landmark proposals to the Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, aimed at elevating cricket development and preserving cricket legacy in the state.

In a statement issued by SCA recently, it stated that the first proposal outlines the Sarawak Cricket 5-Year Development Master Plan, which focuses on establishing Sarawak as a regional cricket powerhouse.

Among the key requests are establishing four Sarawak Cricket Development Centres with qualified coaches, constructing training infrastructure, and enabling Sarawak teams to compete in high-level national and international tournaments.

Meanwhile, SCA vice president Victor Graman said these initiatives are essential to building a sustainable cricket ecosystem across Sarawak.

“With strategic support, we believe Sarawak can become a centre of excellence for cricket in East Malaysia,”he said.

In addition, SCA also submitted a proposal for the production of a commemorative coffee-table book titled ‘Off the Bat – In the Land of the Hornbills’, which will document the history and milestones of cricket in Sarawak.

This follows Sarawak’s successful hosting of the ICC Women’s U-19 Cricket World Cup and the ongoing development of the iconic Borneo Cricket Ground, first international standard cricket ground in Borneo island.

The book will have a limited-edition release with 500 printed copies and aims to preserve the sport’s legacy for future generations.

The ministry is to be recognised as joint publisher and co-owner of the book.

Also present during the submission were Malaysia Cricket Association (MCA) president Mahinda Vallipuram, who expressed his full support for the Sarawak initiatives, and SCA secretary general Gordon Chung Pei Nan.
