KUCHING: The Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS) Childhood Cancer Awareness Walk has been rescheduled to Nov 7 after being postponed due to the haze.
Registration remains open at RM50 per participant, with proceeds supporting children with cancer and their families throughout treatment.
The walk is part of SCCS’ Childhood Cancer Awareness Month campaign, which is continuing despite the postponement.
Under its Light It Up Gold 2026 campaign, the society illuminated the Darul Hana Bridge in gold on Sept 12.
The illumination was accompanied by the message “September adalah Bulan Kesedaran Kanser Kanak-Kanak” in solidarity with children and families affected by childhood cancer across Sarawak.
The initiative was initially planned to coincide with the awareness walk, but SCCS proceeded with it as a reminder that childhood cancer does not pause.
Several retailers, mostly here, are also supporting the campaign throughout September by contributing a portion of sales from selected products to SCCS.

SCCS president Mary Kiu Ai Ling said the society spent about RM2 million on medical aid for more than 100 children in 2025, its highest annual expenditure since it was registered in 2001.
She said advances in childhood cancer treatment had improved outcomes but also resulted in significantly higher costs, particularly for immunotherapy.
Apart from treatment and other medical expenses not covered under primary care at government hospitals, SCCS assists eligible families with accommodation, transportation, food, flights and weekly allowances.
Kiu said the assistance depended on the continued support of donors and partner organisations.
