School assistant faces 24 ‘criminal breach of trust’ charges

SIBU: A female administrative assistant at a primary school in Sungai Sut, Balleh, claimed trial at the Kapit Sessions Court today to 24 counts of criminal breach of trust involving school funds totaling RM134,582.20.

Juliza Sibat, 33, pleaded not guilty to all charges before Judge Musyiri Peet, who then set March 2 as the pre-trial case management date.

Meanwhile, the court also allowed the accused to be released on bail of RM10,000 and RM8,000 in the form of a fixed deposit, with two sureties with fixed addresses for all the charges.

According to the charges, Juliza is indicted for committing criminal breach of trust at a primary school in Sungai Sut, Balleh, Kapit between July 14, 2023 to January 4, 2024, involving school funds totalling RM134,582.20.

However, the money was used by the accused for personal use.

Accordingly, the accused has committed an offence punishable under Section 408 of the Penal Code, which provides for a prison sentence of not less than one year and not more than 14 years and with whipping and also a fine.

The case was handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor, Cynthia Emmelda Jerry, while the accused was not represented by legal counsel.
