KUCHING: A short circuit sparked a fire at the school hall of SMK Sungai Tapang early this morning, just a day after a similar incident was reported at the same location.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the initial fire occurred at 2.33 pm yesterday (Apr 14) but was quickly extinguished by school staff.

However, the fire reignited around 4.50 am and prompted the school’s security guard to alert authorities to the scene.

Firefighters from Batu Lintang station, who responded to the distress call, found the ceiling of the school hall — currently under repair — caught fire again due to a short circuit.

The team used water from their fire engine to put out the flames before conducting overhaul work to prevent any potential reignition.
