KUCHING: The Stampin Primary School Digitalisation Programme has expanded to SK Batu Kitang with a funding allocation of RM108,000 handed over to the school’s Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) to equip every classroom with a smart TV.

This initiative, under the Stampin Primary Schools Digitalisation Programme, aims to provide each classroom in all 36 primary schools within the Stampin constituency—including national, mission, and Chinese primary schools—with a smart TV to enhance teaching and learning experiences.

“Launched earlier this year by the Stampin Service Centre, the programme will continue into next year, benefiting approximately 100,000 primary school students in the area,” according to Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen in a statement on Thursday.

“The pilot project, introduced three years ago in selected Chinese schools, demonstrated positive outcomes. Students showed increased interest in attending classes and learning, while teachers found the smart TVs made teaching more effective and engaging,” he said.

Beyond facilitating classroom education, the smart TVs also expose students, particularly those from underprivileged families, to the internet and modern technology.

For many of these students, who may not have access to such devices at home, the smart TVs offer valuable hands-on experience.

“Functioning like smartphones, these smart TVs can connect to the internet, access Google, and provide extracurricular activities such as YouTube access and internet browsing.

“In today’s digital age, internet access and technological literacy are essential components of a child’s education. Without these skills, students risk falling behind,” he said.

“Recognising this, RM108,000 has been allocated to SK Batu Kitang for the installation of eight smart TVs in its classrooms. The devices are ready for installation, but approval from the State Public Works Department (PWD) is required before the installation process can begin.

“We urge PWD to expedite the approval process as this initiative is entirely funded without burdening the school’s resources and is for the benefit of the students’ education,” he said.
