MIRI: The long-awaited construction of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Tudan has finally resumed after nearly ten years of delay.

After the re-construction is completed, the school will begin operation by June 2026.

The revival of the project brings renewed optimism to thousands of students and parents in the rapidly growing areas such as Permyjaya, Vista Perdana, Desa Senadin, Tudan Jaya, and Lutong, who have been eagerly anticipating a new secondary school to meet rising enrolment demands.

Minister of Transport, Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, said that a new tender was awarded to a contractor in March this year with a total cost of RM11.47 million.

The Senadin assemblyman said that the reconstruction project officially began on March 28, 2025 and is scheduled for full completion by March 27, 2026.

“As of now, the physical progress has reached 4.6 per cent, while financial progress stands at 9.77 per cent, which is ahead of the original schedule.

“Many parents have been asking when this school will be ready. Today, we finally see the long-awaited ray of hope.

“This school is crucial for fast-developing areas like Permyjaya and Tudan,” he said.

He stated this at a press conference after conducting a site visit to SMK Tudan alongside senior officials from the Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE) and the Sarawak State Education Department, recently.

SMK Tudan will be built with the capacity to accommodate 1,260 students, featuring 35 classrooms and operating solely in a morning session, thus promising a more conducive and comfortable learning environment.

The school is expected to ease the overcrowding at nearby schools such as SMK Merbau, SMK Pujut, and SMK Lutong, which currently can accommodate between 2,800 to 3,000 students at each school.
