KUCHING: The Dick Bentham Cup 7s U16 Rugby Tournament returns this year with renewed intensity as 12 schools from Kuching, Bau, Serian and Kota Samarahan gear up to challenge defending champions, MRSM Kuching, in the 2025 edition.
Tomorrow’s annual tournament, regarded as one of the key platforms for identifying young rugby talent in the region, will feature eight boys’ teams and four girls’ teams competing across three groups.
For the Boys’ Division, MRSM Kuching will begin their title defence in Group A alongside SMK St Joseph, SMK Tebedu and last year’s finalists, SM Sains Kuching Utara.
Group B brings together SMK Tarat, SMK Muara Tuang, KV Matang and SM Sains Kuching – all eager to stake their claim in a field known for its physicality and competitive depth.
The Girls’ Division is set for an equally exciting showcase, with Group C comprising SMK Muara Tuang, SM Sains Kuching, SMK Tebedu and SMK Lake.
Last year, MRSM Kuching lifted the title after a hard-fought final against SM Sains Kuching Utara, and the defending champions are expected to face strong competition again this year.
