KUCHING: The 8th Cuboree has once again proven to be an important platform for strengthening core scouting skills and building character among young participants.

Held from Nov 21 to 23 at the Santubong Co-curriculum Camp, the three-day camp brought together 150 Cub Scouts from 12 primary schools across the Petra Jaya Scout District.

Participants took part in a series of structured activities, such as nature trekking with beach exploration, obstacle challenges, backwoods cooking, gadget and knotting competitions, a cultural night competition and knot tying sessions, which were designed to enhance their basic scouting competencies, physical endurance and personal discipline.

SK Bandar Samariang emerged as the overall champion, followed by SK Agama Datuk Haji Abdul Kadir Hassan in second place, while SK Merpati Jepang placed third.

Deputy State Scout Commissioner Ngatiman Seripin, who officiated at the closing ceremony, said character education is a key pillar of the scouting movement and is instilled through guided activities that shape positive personality traits.

“I would like to remind scouts to serve as role models to their peers and to stay away from unhealthy behaviours such as bullying and drug abuse.

“The Scout movement teaches us to care for one another and to live within a healthy and harmonious society,” he said.

The camp demonstrated Petra Jaya Scouts’ continued commitment to nurturing disciplined, knowledgeable and well-rounded young individuals.

Also present were Regional Scout Commissioner for Zon I Azizah Sulong and Petra Jaya District Scout Commissioner Mohd Hanapi Ahmad.
