Scout Eco-Run 5.0 draws over 1,600 participants

KUCHING: More than 1,600 participants comprising scouts, parents and members of the public took part in the Scout Eco-Run 5.0 organised by the Sarawak Scout Council on Saturday (June 20).

The event culminated with the prize-giving ceremony officiated by National Chief Scout, Major General (Rtd) Professor Datuk Dr Mohd Zin Bidin, who presented prizes to winners of the competitive categories and congratulated them on their achievements.

Held in a lively and cordial atmosphere, the annual run featured four categories – the 21-kilometre (km), 12km, 7km and 3km races.

In the 21km Men’s Veteran category, Razali Samar emerged champion and received RM1,000 in prize money. Deris Jan finished second and won RM750, while Robin Dagu took third place and received RM500.

The 21km Men’s Open title went to Arikchely Airyl, who pocketed RM1,000. Abang Jamali finished second for RM750, while Gerald Gayak claimed third place and received RM500.

For the 21km Women’s Open category, Lim Siat Fah emerged champion with RM1,000 in prize money, followed by Nuryati Pulong (RM750) and Noor Zuharniza Junaita (RM500).

In the 21km Women’s Veteran category, Lim Siat Hiang clinched the title and RM1,000 in prize money. Lau Ngiik Ching came in second for RM750, while Kona Liau A Ken finished third and received RM500.

Meanwhile, Saidi Suni won the 12km Men’s Open category and received RM600, Sunny Jong Shi Xian finished second for RM450, while Baddeli Naafi claimed third place and RM300.

The 12km Men’s Veteran title went to Zukanine Saring, followed by Lau Kim Ann and Chong Tun Leong.

In the 12km Women’s Open category, Cherynna Corey Chin emerged champion and won RM600, with Ngui Li Hsia taking second place and Liew Siew Yin finishing third.

Ho Hie Knew won the 12km Women’s Veteran category, followed by Christabel Lim and Andeline Poo Phei Sian.

Participants in the non-competitive 7km and 3km categories received commemorative T-shirts, medals and certificates upon completing their runs.

Organisers described the event as a success, highlighting its role in promoting healthy lifestyles, environmental awareness and community spirit, while expressing appreciation to participants, volunteers, sponsors and supporters for ensuring its smooth execution.

Also present were Sarawak Scout Council Exco Chairman, Peter Chai Mui Seng; Chief Scout Commissioner of Sarawak, John Lim Boon Beng; Padawan District Education Officer, Sharifah Idawati Wan Ahmad; SMK Sri Matang Principal, Othman Ibrahim; and Sarawak Scout Foundation Chairman, Arthur Lee Cheng Chuan.
