KUCHING: The Scout group of St Joseph’s Private Secondary School marked Sarawak’s first Scout Mass on April 23, in conjunction with St George’s Day.
The historic event, held in honour of Saint George, the patron saint of Scouts, brought together more than 80 participants, including Cub Scouts, Junior and Senior Scouts.
The Mass was celebrated by Fr Joseph Ng and attended by school scout leaders as well as several assistant State Commissioners led by Chief Commissioner John Lim Boon Beng.
Saint George, chosen by Scouting founder Robert Baden-Powell as a model for Scouts, symbolises courage, faith and moral strength. Scouts attended the Mass in full uniform, reflecting unity and commitment to Scouting values.
A commemorative St George’s Day bookmark was distributed to encourage reflection on the saint’s virtues.
The event highlighted the integration of faith and Scouting while reinforcing the school’s commitment to character development.
The inaugural celebration is expected to become a lasting tradition for Catholic school Scouting in Sarawak.
