KUCHING: A total of 34 scouters from Kuching, Bau, Padawan and Petra Jaya completed a three-day leadership course at the Scout headquarters, aimed at strengthening their leadership capabilities.
Chief Scout Commissioner of Sarawak Capt Zainuddin Hamdan lauded the participants for their shared commitment to enhance leadership skills and contributing to a sustainable future for scouting in the state.
He said leadership is not merely a role or title, but a responsibility to set an example.
“The scouters have been equipped with new tools, ideas, and insights that will help them better serve the scouts and foster the values we hold dear, while upholding the principles of scouting.
“As we stand at the threshold of applying what we have learned, it is essential to reflect on the responsibility that comes with being a leader in scouting.”
“To be a successful leader, one must be productive, proactive, and collaborative,” he said during the closing ceremony recently.
The course, codenamed the Wood Badge Course Stage III, served as a solid foundation to empower scouters in tackling the evolving challenges of leadership training in scouting.
Participants were introduced to various methods and techniques unique to scout training, which emphasise learning by doing and small teaching methods. These approaches are designed to make scouting both enjoyable and a meaningful way of life for boys and girls.
The course was led by Ngatiman Sarepin as the lead trainer, supported by trainers Thian Houng Boon, Ikmal Bong Abdullah, Daut Taim, Lorneo Sekireo, Haidi, and Jong Shiau Feng.
During the ceremony, Zainuddin also presented certificates of attendance to 14 cub scout leaders and 20 scouters who completed the leadership course.
