KUCHING: The Sarawak scout movement is much more than a co-curricular activity as it fosters noble values and a spirit of harmony among the younger generation.
Sarawak Scout Council president Tan Sri Datuk Sri William Mawan Ikom, who stated this, called on all commissioners and scout leaders to continue playing a role in instilling a spirit of love for the state and country among the young.
“We must also emphasise the importance of educating the younger generation to be valuable members of their families, communities, state and country,” he said.
He gave the reminder in his speech delivered by Sarawak Scout Council deputy president and National Scout Council member Datuk Mohamad Safri Datuk Abdillah during the Aidilfitri celebration at the Sarawak ccout headquarters on April 26.
“I invite all attendees to reflect on the values of family, simplicity and love that are the tenets of every true scout,” he said.
He added that leadership by example is the main key in shaping the identity of young Sarawakians who will later be able to bring glory to the country.
“Regardless of our position whether professionals, civil servants, or scout leaders in schools, the most important thing is honesty, sincerity and trust in carrying out our responsibilities to produce a generation that is united and lives in a peaceful atmosphere,” he added.
Earlier, Sarawak Scout Council exco deputy chairman Awang Mahadil explained that the gathering aimed to strengthen brotherhood and friendship among commissioners, scouts and scout council members and members of the local community.
“The gathering not only strengthens relationships among scouts in particular and with the community in general, but also strengthens their commitment to continue to be agents of unity and harmony in the Land of the Hornbills,” he said.
