KUCHING: A total of 113 scouts from the 2nd, 4th, 5th, 16th and 23rd Kuching Scout Troops have taken the initiative to clean up the beach of Kem Belia Pueh, Sematan during the ongoing combined troop camping from Jun 5 to 9.
According to Sarawak Chief Scout Commissioner John Lim Boon Beng, the camping was hosted by the 5th Kuching Scout Troop in collaboration with the 2nd, 4th and 16th Kuching Scout Troops.
“As part of the programme, a beach cleanup was organised as a community service activity aimed at instilling environmental awareness and responsibility among the young participants.
“Despite the short duration, the scouts managed to collect a total of 133.5kg of rubbish discarded or left behind by irresponsible beachgoers,” he said in a statement yesterday (Jun 5).
He said the initiative reflects the true spirit of scouting and the Scout motto of ‘Doing a good turn daily’.
