BALAI RINGIN: A total of 156 scout leaders and District Scout Council members from Serian and Siburan districts were honoured with the 111th Year of Scouting in Sarawak Commemorative Medal and Distinguished Service Medal.

The presentation event was held at the Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing Hall, SMK Balai Ringin, on Monday.

The medals were awarded in recognition of their dedication, service and significant contributions to the growth and progress of the scouting movement in their respective districts and in Sarawak as a whole.

The presentation was graced by the Deputy President of the Sarawak Scout Council, Datuk Mohamad Safri Datuk Abdillah.

Safri expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the organisers and all involved in ensuring the success of the event.

“This effort truly reflects your strong spirit and commitment in upholding the dignity of the scouting movement, especially here in our beloved Land of the Hornbill,” he said in his speech.

He also commended the dedication and commitment of the District Scout Council members, commissioners and scout leaders in Serian and Siburan, who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, perseverance, and enthusiasm in advancing the scout movement in Sarawak.

“Their achievements are clear evidence of their dedication and contribution, not only to scouting but also to the wider community. This embodies the true spirit of scouting to be always prepared, to serve, and to bring positive change,” he added.

Reflecting on the 111-year journey of the movement in Sarawak, which began in 1913, he noted that scouting has remained relevant across generations by producing disciplined, resilient, and service-oriented young people.

“This proud tradition must continue. As times change, scouting must adapt to technology, globalisation, and new challenges while upholding the core values of courage, honesty, loyalty and service to the community and nation,” he said.
