KUCHING: Over 400 young people, parents and members of the public gathered at the Sarawak Scout Headquarters for a day of hands-on learning and discovery, as the Scout Association of Malaysia, Sarawak branch, today rolled out its first full-day high-impact training programme in partnership with HRD Corp Sarawak.
Held in conjunction with National Training Week 2025, the event transformed the scout grounds at Jalan Batu Lintang into a hub of activity and excitement.
Seven interactive training stations, manned by seasoned scout leaders and rover scouts, offered participants the chance to try their hand at a wide range of practical skills.
From tying knots and building pioneering structures, to navigating with maps and compasses, to cooking in the wilderness and descending by rope during abseiling drills, every station was designed to offer not just a challenge, but also a sense of achievement.
The atmosphere was energetic and collaborative, with participants of all ages learning by doing and enjoying the process along the way.
For many, it was a rare opportunity to unplug and connect with real-world skills.
For the scouts leading the sessions, it was a moment to pass on their knowledge and inspire the next generation.
“This is what development looks like, people coming together, learning together,” said Husny Mubarak Julaihi, Head of HRD Corp’s Kuching office, who visited the event alongside fellow HRD Corp Associate, Mohd Fareez Rizal Spree.
“You could really feel the energy and enthusiasm on the ground. It’s exactly the kind of grassroots initiative we’re proud to support.”
Also present were key leaders from the Sarawak Scout Council, including Deputy Chief Scout Commissioners, Lu Cho Heng and Ngatiman Sarepin, as well as Assistant Chief Scout Commissioner, Abang Zulfikar Abang Zaini.
The programme, aimed at building skills through experience-based learning, marks a milestone for the Sarawak Scout movement.
More than just a showcase, it reflected the enduring value of scouting in preparing young people for life’s challenges – and in doing so, echoed the spirit of National Training Week.
In a statement, the Sarawak Scout Branch expressed its gratitude to HRD Corp Sarawak for both the financial backing and the spirit of partnership.
“This collaboration has opened doors for deeper engagement in youth development,” the statement read.
“We look forward to more impactful programmes together.”
As the sun set on the training day, the sense of achievement was clear – not just in the ropes tied or fires lit, but in the shared experience of learning, leadership and community.
