KUCHING: The Serian District Council (SDC) is set to bid for funding from the government to construct a new headquarters behind the current office in Serian town.
Its chairman Datuk Peter Minos said the proposal has been submitted through Deputy Premier and Minister for Public Health, Housing, and Local Government Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian and that discussions with the state’s top leadership are expected to take place soon.
“We have already prepared our proposal and we are going to have an audience with Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg after the Hari Raya celebration,” he said.
Minos added that preliminary groundwork for the project has been completed, with consultant studies already carried out.
“The consultant works, the design and everything on the proposed HQ have been done and are ready. I have got words from the premier to come and see him for the money.
“This puts us in a strong position to move forward once funding is approved. We are bidding for RM45 million,” he explained.
The new headquarters, aimed at enhancing its administrative efficiency and service delivery to the public, would also reflect Serian’s aspirations to grow into a more developed and well-managed district.
Minos said the proposed headquarters is expected to incorporate modern design elements and upgraded facilities in line with current standards for local authorities.
“The project will include a five-story building plus a baruk (traditional ceremonial house of the Bidayuh). Next to the HQ, which is Dr Sim’s idea, will be the innovation centre plus the auditorium and canteen,” he added.
Minos expressed optimism that the state government would view the proposal favourably, noting that improved administrative infrastructure is essential to support ongoing development initiatives in the area.
He noted that the new headquarters is not just about a building, it is about strengthening the SDC’s capacity to serve the people of Serian more effectively.
Further details on the project, including its cost and timeline, are expected to be announced following discussions with the state leadership.
