KUCHING: The Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) has developed around 10 digital applications over the past five years, adopting a selective approach that prioritises collaboration with local software developers.

SDEC’s Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Sudarnoto Osman, said SDEC only builds applications when necessary, while encouraging a wider use of existing solutions and supporting the growth of Sarawak’s tech ecosystem.

“We are very selective because we want to be careful about which apps we develop. We only build when it is necessary. If not, we let public apps be utilised,” he said during SDEC’s Media Appreciation Night at Cloud9 Sky Lounge, Impiana by Roxy Hotel, on Friday night.

He said most of the applications are developed in collaboration with Sarawak-based software houses, with SDEC managing the structure while programming work is carried out by industry players.

“Our idea is to groom more software houses within Sarawak. Most of the apps that we build, we develop together with software houses available in Sarawak,” he said.

Among the applications introduced is ‘CraftQ’, a free-to-use tool designed to help small businesses such as cobblers and tailors manage orders and improve business efficiency.

Sudarnoto said the platform enables users to track completed orders, monitor product performance, and maintain financial records online, making it easier for them to manage operations and prepare reports, especially when applying for financing.

He added that the approach reflects SDEC’s broader focus on strengthening the private sector and expanding participation in the digital economy.
