SIBU: The Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) Sibu branch has extended aid to the fire victims of Rumah Paulus Yan, who are currently staying at the temporary evacuation centre (PPS) in Dewan Datuk Aaron here.

The team, led by SDNU Sibu chairman Chambai Lindong, provided food, clothing, and moral support to the victims during their visit yesterday (Jan 18).

“Some of them are still in a state of shock and have difficulty accepting the reality that their houses and homes, which they had built over the years, went up in smoke and disappeared before their own eyes within minutes, destroying everything, including their valuable documents.

“It is indeed a touching experience to see them, young and old, including schoolchildren, crammed in special tents provided by the welfare department,” Chambai said in a Facebook post today.

He stressed that the victims need continued public support to help them through this challenging time.

“It is hoped that our small contributions, together with earlier contributions from other members of the public, will help ease their burdens for the time being,” he added.

The fire on Jan 15 destroyed the 16-door Rumah Paulus Yan in Nanga Bawan, Kanowit, leaving 88 residents homeless.
