SIBU: Sri Aman MP Datuk Seri Doris Sophia Brodie has commended the Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) Sibu and Sarakup Indu Dayak Sarawak (SIDS) Sibu for actively organising various programmes through their associations.
She said that the successful implementation of these programmes demonstrated the unity within the associations.
“Quoting the words shared tonight, ‘berserakup kitai mansang, begempung kitai senang, segulai sejalai’ (United we progress, together we prosper, walking in unity). However, I would like to add ‘bersatu ngagai pemansang’ (unity towards development),” she said.
“Our celebration tonight is a good example of unity, where four associations have come together to organise this event,” she said in her speech when officiating the Dayak Pre-Gawai Celebration last night (May 24).

The annual dinner, organised in collaboration with SIDS Sibu, SDNU Sibu, the Orang Ulu National Association (OUNA), and the Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA), was attended by 1,500 participants.
Doris emphasised that unity within any organisation is crucial.
“If we quarrel within the association, we will end up focusing too much on conflict instead of working together to improve and develop the organisation.
“We will fall behind while others who are united will continue to move forward,” she added.
Meanwhile, speaking about the Gawai celebration, Doris stressed the importance of remembering the true meaning of Gawai, which is a celebration after receiving an abundant harvest of rice.
“It is also a testament to the fruits of our labour throughout the year of planting. Therefore, we must be grateful and remember the significance of this date,” she said.
