KUCHING: The Samarahan District Scout Council (SDSC) marked the 111th year of scouting in Sarawak with an annual luncheon here, celebrating leaders and young Cub Scouts with the Sarawak Scouts 111th Anniversary Commemorative Medal and the 2025 Cub Scout Rambu Award.
Samarahan Deputy Resident and SDSC Chairman, Rais Ahmat, said the event was not merely an annual gathering but a platform to recognise the contributions of leaders and to strengthen youth participation in the scouting movement.
He also highlighted the importance of the ‘Be Prepared’ value in shaping character and leadership among scouts.
A total of 36 leaders received the Sarawak Scouts 111th Anniversary Commemorative Medal, led by Rais himself, with presentations officiated by Sarawak Scout Council’s Vice-President, Kho Ik Teck.
Five leaders received the gold medal, followed by silver and bronze recipients representing various schools and scouting units in the Samarahan district.
The event also honoured 15 Cub Scouts from the Samarahan and Asajaya areas through the Rambu presentation, officiated by Chief Scout Commissioner John Lim Boon Beng, marking their early achievements in scouting.
In his address, Lim reminded medal recipients to uphold three essential elements – harmony, environment and discovery – in their activities.
“All scout leaders must work harmoniously, sustain the environment, and make discovery a norm in all their programmes,” he said.
Kho, in his special remarks, praised the commitment of volunteers and scout leaders who continue to play a vital role in youth character development.
He also called for strengthening community-based scouting in line with the aspirations of the Chief Scout of Malaysia.
Overall, the event served to foster closer ties between leaders, educators, parents and scouts, further strengthening SDSC’s efforts in continuing more than a century of scouting heritage in Sarawak.
