KUCHING: National shuttler Wong Ling Ching’s SEA Games 2025 bronze medal earned her a RM5,000 incentive from the Sarawak Badminton Association (SBA), highlighting the state’s growing presence on the regional badminton stage.
SBA’s President, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar, announced the incentive during the association’s partnership event with Yonex-Sunrise, describing Wong’s achievement as a reflection of Sarawak badminton’s steady progress and improving development structure.
He said Wong’s success at the SEA Games in Bangkok, coupled with her selection into the national setup, showed that Sarawak players are capable of competing at the highest regional level when given consistent support and exposure.
“Since this session of our association, we have also improved our governance, building an association that is more dynamic, comfortable and forward-looking,” Wan Lizozman said.
In addition to Wong’s accomplishment, Wan Lizozman noted that Sarawak’s junior shuttlers have also shown encouraging results at recent competitions, including medal finishes at the Borneo Games 2025 and improved placings at the National Interstate Under-12 and Under-16 Championships.
Leading the performances were the Under-12 boys, who finished fourth overall, while both the Under-16 boys’ and girls’ teams secured fifth place.
Wan Lizozman said such achievements align with SBA’s newly unveiled SMASH 2030 roadmap, which focuses on grassroots development, high-performance training, coaching enhancement, intensified competition, and strategic partnerships.
Additionally, he said the collaboration with Yonex-Sunrise would further strengthen SBA’s efforts by providing players with world-class equipment and reinforcing professionalism within the association.
