BANGKOK: Malaysia completed a dominant clean sweep in squash at the SEA Games 2025 after Sanjay Jeeva secured the men’s individual gold today.
Top seed Sanjay overcame a slow start to defeat second seed, Duncan Lee, in an all-Malaysian final held at Vajiravudh College, winning 6-11, 11-6, 11-5, 11-4.
This victory capped Malaysia’s haul of all four gold medals available in squash, alongside two silver medals, underscoring the country’s continued supremacy in the sport.
Earlier, Ainaa Amani clinched the women’s individual title, while Harith Danial Jefri teamed up with Low Wa Sern and Sehveetrraa Kumar to win the jumbo men’s doubles and jumbo mixed doubles respectively.
Squash was notably absent from the last two SEA Games in 2021 (Hanoi) and 2023 (Phnom Penh), making Malaysia’s return to the podium all the more emphatic.
“I lost the first game, but I’m super excited. It was the last match of the year, so I’m just happy to end with a good win and a title – especially playing for my country,” Sanjay told Sarawak Tribune .
He added that facing Duncan in the final was a battle between two players who share mutual respect, knowing each other well both on and off the court.
“We both know each other really well and have a lot of respect. We gave our all on court, and there were no hard feelings.
“We just played as well as we could. Today, I was the winner,” he said.
