BANGKOK: Malaysia’s squash team looks ahead to the Asian Games after a successful SEA Games campaign, with Head Coach, Ajaz Azmat, confident in the young players’ potential and readiness.
Malaysia delivered strong performances across nearly all categories at the SEA Games 2025, achieving targets set by national sports bodies National Sports Council (MSN) and Squash Racquets Association of Malaysia (SRAM).
The team’s success was highlighted by standout performances in the Jumbo Doubles events, where emerging talents like Low Wa Sern, Harith Danial Jefri, and Sehveetrraa Kumar played key roles.
“I think we did very well. We achieved our targets and placed strongly, especially in Jumbo Doubles.
“We have a young next generation coming through who showed great promise,” said Ajaz Azmat to Sarawak Tribune at the Vajiravudh College today.
The coach also acknowledged the hard work of coaches, Nafiizwan Adnan and Sharil Shahidan, whose dedication was instrumental in the team’s success.
“Our head coach worked really hard for this event, and it’s paid off,” Ajaz said.
Coming into the tournament, Malaysia had some concerns about strong competition from Singapore and the Philippines, particularly in the mixed doubles, where the team had previously lost to the Philippines earlier in.
However, the players managed the pressure well and delivered impressive performances.
With the SEA Games behind them, the team now sets its sights on the upcoming Asian Games in Japan.
“We have three gold medalists from the last Asian Games, so let’s see how it goes first,” Ajaz said.
He named several players expected to feature prominently at the next event, including Ng Eain Yow, Sivasangari Subramaniam, Rachel Arnold, Aira Azman, Aifa Azman, Sanjay Jeeva, Ameeshenraj Chandaran
“We have from here is Duncan Lee, and Sanjay for individuals and for I think mixed doubles, we will see. There’s a couple (of players) I want to try, quite a few young generation (of) players coming through,” he said.
