Search continues for men missing at sea

BINTULU: Search and rescue efforts will continue on Friday (Sept 25) for two men who went missing during a fishing trip near the Temana A platform.

Day 8 (Thursday, Sept 24) of operations started at 8am to look for Kinminsna Kassim, 58, and his Indonesian employee Pendi Salim Husin, 38.

Tatau District police chief DSP Dennis Bunyam said teams scoured the area around Kuala Balingian to Kuala Bintulu waters, including near the Temana A platform.

He said two Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) vessels-KM Renggis and Kilat Bottle 43£­along with boats from the Fire and Rescue Department Bintulu and Tatau Zones, Malaysian Civil Defense Force, Marine Police and villagers.

To date, the teams managed to find an overturned boat believed to belong to the duo about 11 nautical miles from the Temena A platform on Sept 18.

On the day of the incident, Sept 16, their boat sank near the Temana A platform due to bad weather.

Kinminsna and Pendi are believed to have gone fishing at 5.30pm that day, but failed to return, prompting their families to lodge a missing person’s report.
