KUCHING: The search and rescue (SAR) operation for a 48-year old ferry helmsman, Lin Jarak, who went missing on Monday (Apr 8), is ongoing into its fifth day.

Despite intensive search operations, which included surface searching up to 15 kilometres from the incident site using villagers’ boats, there have been no positive results thus far.

As of 4.30pm today, authorities have delayed efforts until tomorrow (Apr 13) due to rising water tides and strong currents.

The operation has gathered a multi agency SAR involving Marine Police Force, Civil Defence Force (APM) and the K9 Unit of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (BOMBA).

The 48-year old man, identified as Lin Jarak remains to be found after he was accompanied by three crewmates, ventured into the river to disentangle a rope from the ferry’s propeller.

During the time, the water was chin-deep and diving into the water, Lin did not resurface presumably due to the rising tide and strong currents.
