DARO: The body of a six-year-old girl feared to have fallen into Sungai Daro was found floating in the river near Kampung Lemang Pek today.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) confirmed that the girl was spotted by rescuers around 4 pm during coordinated search efforts along the river.

The body was later retrieved and taken to Kampung Panchor jetty before being transported to hospital in a police vehicle for a post-mortem.

With the discovery of the victim, the search and rescue (SAR) operation was officially called off at 4.45 pm.

On Sunday (Feb 1), the girl was reported missing from her family home in Kampung Panchor.

Preliminary information stated that the child had left the house on her own through the back door without her parents noticing.

Her father later discovered footprints believed to belong to his daughter leading towards the riverbank, prompting him to alert rescue agencies for search assistance.

Firefighters from the Daro station, together with the police and Civil Defence Force (APM), were deployed to the scene to initiate the search.
