Search for missing man in Simunjan futile

SIMUNJAN: A search and rescue (SAR) operation was launched to locate a sexagenarian reported missing at a river near Kampung Sungai Labi, Simunjan yesterday.

The victim, identified as 69-year-old Ili Bahayan, was last seen using a boat to head back to his village at around 10 am on yesterday (May 10).

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (FRD) said they received a distress call at around 1.35 pm pertaining to the incident yesterday.

Firemen from Simunjan station were promptly despatched to the scene and launched the SAR operation together with the police, Malaysia Civil Defence Force (MCDF) and People’s Volunteer Corps (RELA).

The search is being carried out in a 5km search radius from Kampung Sungai Labi using water surface searching methods.

As at press time, the search is still ongoing and Ili is yet to be found.
