KUCHING: The state government is in the process of selecting a qualified contractor for the Batang Rambungan bridge in Lundu.

According to Infrastructure and Ports Development Assistant Minister and Sebuyau assemblyman Datuk Julaihi Narawi, the project was put under the purview of the state government after its construction was deferred by the federal government.

“The Batang Rambungan Bridge is one of three bridge projects approved by the federal government but not given priority.

“Thus, the Sarawak government under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) has taken over the project and incurred the cost of construction,” he said when met by reporters after inspecting a site for the groundbreaking ceremony of the bridge in Lundu yesterday.

He added the groundbreaking ceremony would be officiated by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg on November 24.

Also present was Tanjung Dato assemblywoman Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu.
