BAU: A search and rescue (SAR) operation was launched to locate an elderly man who was reported missing after failing to return home at Kampung Krian, Tasik Biru, here since last Monday (August 11).
Bau District Police Headquarters (IPD) said the missing person is identified as Liew Kim Ted, 73.
He was last seen wearing a brown T-shirt and shorts, and left his home at around 11:00 am on Monday.
“Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to contact investigating officer and Bau police station chief, SM Johnny Bedu, at 013-5676317 or the nearest police station,” police said.
Meanwhile, the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Bau station were deployed to the scene to assist in the search.
“The victim’s brother saw him walking along a village road on Monday morning but was unsure where he was headed.
“He did not return home since August 12, which prompted the family to lodge a missing person report,” the department said.
Based on information from the villagers, Liew is believed to be in the forested area behind his house.
At the time of writing, the search is ongoing and the victim remains unaccounted for.
