SARATOK: A Myanmar national is feared to have fallen from a ship at Batu Pekan Wharf along Sungai Krian here today.
The man, identified as Thu Htoo Aung, 20, was a crew member of Moi Soon 2 vessel when he reportedly fell into the river at 9.30 am and did not resurface.
Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak said a distress call was received at 10.43 am and firefighters from the Saratok station were deployed to the scene.
“Based on the chronology of the incident, other crew members immediately launched a search but failed to locate the man.
“A police report was later lodged at the Saratok police station for further action,” it said in a statement on Friday.
It said the man was last seen wearing brown long pants and short rubber shoes and was shirtless at the time of the incident.
As of press time, search efforts were still ongoing.
