LAWAS: Rescuers here have widened their search for an elderly man feared to have been taken by a crocodile, combing several kilometres of the Terusan River on Wednesday.
The man, 80-year-old Tuah Lamat, vanished on Tuesday evening while bathing at a jetty in Kampung Siang-Siang Laut. His towel and slippers were later found by the riverbank.
Yesterday morning (Wednesday), Fire and Rescue teams extended surface sweeps to cover one kilometre upstream and up to two kilometres downstream from where he was last seen. The search is being carried out with boats in low-water conditions.
Eight Bomba personnel are leading the mission, supported by police, civil defence, wildlife officers and district officials. Despite the expanded effort, no trace of the missing man has been found.
The search operation continues.
