LUBOK ANTU: Sarawak Energy Bhd (SEB) is not only driving energy development but also ensuring children affected by the Batang Ai Hydroelectric Plant (HEP) are not left behind in the wave of progress.

It is continuing to advance rural education by contributing towards nurturing a new generation to sustain the state’s development.

SEB Batang Ai HEP’s Station Manager, David Gunda, said SK Batang Ai is one of SEB’s 10 adopted schools that has received various forms of assistance over the years.

“This school receives RM7,000 in annual aid, and today’s contribution involves 54 chairs and 10 folding tables,” he told reporters during a visit to SK Batang Ai, here, today.

David said SEB has also allocated RM300,000 in educational funds annually since 2018 specifically for students affected by the Batang Ai project.

“So far, there have been students from here who successfully completed their studies, and four of them are now working with SEB.

“This is proof that SEB is not only driving energy development but also helping ensure that children in Lubok Antu are not left behind in the wave of progress,” he explained.

He also said that the adoption of SK Batang Ai is expected to strengthen education in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), and produce an innovative generation to propel Sarawak forward.

Meanwhile, SK Batang Ai’s headmaster, Harry Galau, said SEB’s contribution is significant in helping students improve their academic performance, affairs, and co-curricular activities.

“In addition to education funds, SK Batang Ai has also received various infrastructure and equipment contributions to support STEM education.

“Among the latest contributions are three drones for pupils to participate in two state-level drone competitions in Kuching and Mukah.

“In fact, SEB also helped upgrade the school’s Highly Immersive Programme (HIP) corner, making the learning atmosphere more engaging and the environment more conducive,” he added.

He hoped this collaboration could continue for the benefit of the children in Batang Ai.

The visit, held in conjunction with the 40th anniversary celebration of the Batang Ai HEP, also highlighted SEB’s commitment to advancing the local community through various contributions following the impact of the project.

The visit included tours of the preschool, the school gallery showcasing achievements and awards, as well as the independence corner and HIP corner of the school.
