KUCHING: Investing in the younger generation is essential for Sarawak’s future, says Sarawak Energy Bhd’s (SEB) Senior Vice-President for Health, Safety, Security and Environment, Marconi Madai.
Marconi highlighted that SEB’s commitment to youth development is reflected through long-term investments in education, particularly in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
“This includes strategic partnerships, such as with The Learning Curve, to launch SCIENCE in 2018 under the company’s social investment pillar focused on education and young people.
“This represents our growth and is part of our learning journey. This vision also forms the foundation of the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030,” he said.
He said this during the SEB’s 7th Sarawak Community Innovation & Engineering Convention (SCIENCE) 2025 closing ceremony at The Spring Shopping Mall here today.
Facilitated by The Learning Curve, the convention held from July 5 to 6 aims to cultivate interest in STEM among school students while promoting diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI).

“This year’s convention carried the theme ‘Circular Digital Economy’, which integrated digital technologies, artificial intelligence, and machine learning with sustainable circular economy principles.
“SCIENCE is our brand signature campaign under the ‘Powering Young Minds’ initiative where young people get to solve real-world problems beyond the classroom while building important skills such as creativity, critical thinking, design thinking, and teamwork, an essential for a sustainable future.
“I’m especially happy to see more girls participating this year with more than 50 per cent of our participants are girls,” he said.
He added that this is the result of deliberate efforts and inclusive selection processes that support their involvement reflecting SEB’s strong commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Marconi also encouraged students to participate in the upcoming ASEAN Youth Energy Awards (AEYA), which will take place during the Sustainability and Renewable Energy Forum (SAREF 4.0) at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).
This year’s convention itself saw a total of 169 participants, including 129 students and 40 teachers, involved in both the main event and outreach activities across Kuching, Serian, Padawan, Kota Samarahan and Batu Kitang.
