KUCHING: Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Teach For Malaysia (TFM) to enhance access to quality education and improve student learning outcomes across the state.

The partnership is SEB’s first collaboration with TFM and will see the implementation of the Teach For Malaysia Fellowship programme in Sarawak.

Under Phase 1 of the programme, 13 Fellows will be recruited, trained and placed in schools in the Sejingkat area, including SK Bako, SK Muara Tebas, SK Goebilt, SK Kampung Senari and SK Pajar Sejingkat.

The Fellows will work alongside teachers to support classroom learning and student development, contributing to long-term academic improvement.

Senior vice president for Corporate Services Siti Aisah Adenan said the collaboration reflects Sarawak Energy’s commitment to supporting education and young people as part of its broader social investment efforts.

“Through this partnership with Teach For Malaysia, we hope to strengthen access to quality education, improve learning outcomes and create meaningful impact for students and school communities, particularly in areas where we operate,” she said.

James Ung, group chief operating officer, said the initiative aligns with SEB’s focus on long-term community development.

“Efforts like this contribute to building a stronger talent pipeline for Sarawak, supporting the State’s continued progress towards becoming a developed and high-income economy,” he said.

Meanwhile, TFM chief executive officer Chan Soon Seng highlighted the programme’s potential to transform educational outcomes for students in underserved communities while developing young leaders who will uplift their schools and communities in the long term.

SEB also recently hosted a 30-member TFM delegation at Menara SEB in preparation for the programme rollout, including knowledge sharing sessions, discussions on supporting students and teachers, and briefings on the company’s sustainability and community initiatives.

There are are plans to expand the programme to other areas near Sarawak Energy’s facilities, such as Batang Ai, as part of the company’s ongoing commitment to education and youth development in the communities it serves.

The partnership highlighted both organisations’ shared goal of creating meaningful opportunities for future generation and strengthening Sarawak’s human capital.
