KUCHING: Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew has been appointed advisor to the Malaysia Pickleball Association (MPA) following the formation of its new Executive Committee (Exco) at a Remedial Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on Jan 13.

The Remedial AGM was convened to comply with requirements set by the Sports Commissioner (PJS), ensuring the association’s governance and leadership structure meets national sports regulations.

Ting, who currently serves as Sarawak’s Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, brings extensive experience in public service and sports advocacy to the advisory role.

The Piasau state assemblyman’s guidance is expected to strengthen MPA’s strategic planning, grassroots development, and nationwide promotion of pickleball.

First introduced in Miri, pickleball has since gained popularity nationwide, with courts now being established across the country.

In a Facebook statement, MPA said the election held during the Remedial AGM resulted in the formation of a MPA’s new Exco, comprising representatives from five MPA-affiliated state members, in line with PJS requirements.

“We would like to express our appreciation for the guidance provided by the officers of PJS throughout this process,” the association said.

Also appointed to the advisory committee is Bandar Kuching Member of Parliament, Dr Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen.
