SEBAUH: The Sebauh Bridge across Sungai Kemena is expected to be fully completed by Christmas this year.
Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development, Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, said construction of the bridge has now reached 81 per cent.
“The 728-metre bridge, which spans a total route length of 2.3 kilometres, began construction in 2019 but faced delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“With 81 per cent of the works now completed, the project is on track to be ready by Christmas this year.
“This will be a very meaningful gift for the people of Kemena,” he said at a press conference after attending the Sebauh Bridge Link-Up Ceremony on behalf of Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas at the project site today.
He stressed that the bridge is not just an infrastructure project, but a “game changer” that will strengthen the district’s logistics, agriculture and industrial sectors.
Once completed, he said, agricultural produce will be delivered fresher and faster, improving farmers’ income and enhancing the quality of life for local residents.
Dr Rundi also shared development plans for Sebauh, which include the construction of a new township across the river to address flood issues.
In addition, projects by the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) are underway, such as the building of a church, mosque, mini stadium and waterfront, all of which are expected to help elevate Sebauh into a new township that complements the growth of Bintulu and Tatau.
“Development is not only measured by physical infrastructure, but also by a shift in mindset, enabling the community to fully utilise the facilities provided,” he added.
